A newborn baby gorilla is recovering from an emergency procedure to fix a collapsed lung, just hours after being born by Caesarian section. The baby, born at San Diego Zoo earlier this week, suffered complications soon after birth -- and a medical team made up of veterinary staff and human neonatal experts from the University of California was rallied to help her pull through. They had to insert a breathing tube and clear mucus from her lung, before being able to reinflate it. They covered her in blankets as she recovered from the anaesthetic, and gave her a cuddly toy to cling to. The mother, 18-year-old Imani, is recovering well from her operation as well.
