A wonder strike from Roberto Carlos was enough to secure victory for Brazil in an entertaining friendly against Jamaica at Leicester's Walkers Stadium.

Carlos curled home a vicious left-foot shot midway through the first half for what proved to be the only goal of the game.

Brazil had further chances to extend their lead but were guilty of wasteful finishing, despite a three-pronged attack to strike fear into the Jamaica defence.

Kaka, Rivaldo and Ronaldo all started the match and all had chances to add to Carlos' superb strike.

Kaka was denied by goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts when his superb shot on the turn was pushed round the post.

And Ronaldo was twice denied by the Jamaican keeper in the first half before wasting the chance to add to Carlos' goal late on.

Ronaldo should have made the game safe midway when a superb turn left him with only Ricketts to beat, but the Jamaican keeper once again got down well to save his sidefoot effort.

But Carlos' goal, reminiscent of his famous free-kick against France in Lyon in 1997, was worthy of winning any match.

The left-back won the ball 30 yards out and only had one thing on his mind as he stepped forward before unleashing a left-foot shot which curled from right to left and beyond Rickets' despairing dive.

Jamaica worked hard and looked well-organised against the world champions, but Ricketts was their outstanding player as he stood between Brazil and a hatful of goals.
