Ingredients for Corn Dog Party (about 20 mini-corndogs)
3-4 small cans of Vienna Sausage.
1 cup flour
1 cup cornmeal
1 tbsp. baking powder
1 1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon sugar
Salt and pepper to taste.
4 cups oil for deep frying (enough to cover a Vienna Sausage - about 3 inches deep.)
*Or Corn Muffin Mix - follow box instructions for corndog batter
Dipping sauces
Honey/Mustard - Mix half a cup of mustard with 3 tablespoons of honey.
Spicy Dijon - half cup of Dijon mustard and horseradish sauce (add a little at a time to reach desired heat)
Asian - half cup of ketchup, half cup of steak sauce, and 1/4 cup of soy sauce and/or oyster sauce
Directions
Start heating oil to 350 degrees (medium/high heat - battered corn dogs should cause oil to roil. when added.)
Mix cornmeal ingredients into a batter that is slightly thicker than a pancake batter. The thicker the batter the thicker the corn coating.
Drain Vienna Sausages and pat dry. Insert wood skewers into weiners (5-inch wood shish kabob sticks - cut in half from 10 inches) and coat skewered Vienna Sausage with corndog batter.
Using a tall water glass filled with Corndog batter will make coating skewered Vienna Sausages with batter much easier.
Deep fry in batches of 5 or so for about 5 minutes, depending on how hot the oil is.
Done when corn dogs are golden brown; watch carefully, they can easily burn in hot oil.
Allow each corn dog to cook for a few seconds before adding the next one, so they do not stick together.
Drain cooked Corndogs on a wire tray or paper towels.
Serve Skewered Vienna Sausage Corndogs with Dipping Sauces, or just plain mustard and ketchup.
