This video is of me making metal ashtrays for an old Art Deco, Houze Smoking Stand, made by Houze Glass, that I picked up in an estate sale. Houze makes lots of interesting looking glass items like lamps and this retro smoking stand.
The ashtrays were originally glass. I assume they broke easily as most Houze Smoking Stands I find on the internet are missing the ash receptacles. I also see these stands sell between $400 and $500..... the lower price if the ashtrays are missing and higher if there not missing. I also found them made with uranium glass too.
I used 16 gauge steel to make them, cutting them out with my plasma cutter, then bending the curved part over a pipe. I welded them together and ground out the welds. I finished them in gloss black acrylic enamel, using my Badger model 400 doorjamb spray gun.
