In an interview to Doordarshan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked "if the death of a farmer can be an election issue, shouldn't the death of a solider also be one". "For the safety of the nation, we need a strong army. We have been suffering due to terrorism for the last 40 years. If we cannot present our opinion on this to the citizens of the country, what kind of logic is that?" he added. On Prime Time, Ravish Kumar speaks to Lieutenant General (retd.) HS Panag of the Indian Army about politicisation of the armed forces. Mr Panag says that in his opinion the 'right questions' were not asked from the armed forces whenever an untoward incident has taken place because in the present day atmosphere, questioning the success or failure of the army is deemed as 'anti-national'.
