The LCA’s Proposal Document that was received at Synod a few days ago. Called “2.3 on the Ordination of Women and Men” is a document that was produced by their Commission on Theology and Inter-church Relations (CTICR). It has been received by Synod in a vote of 243 for and 66 against. Such a document represents a dangerous theological shift in the church’s public teaching and practice, seeking to hold together two opposing convictions under one doctrinal framework. While its stated goal is unity and mutual respect, the proposal introduces deep theological confusion that strikes at the heart of Lutheran identity, biblical authority, and confessional integrity. By redefining ordination as a matter of conscience and interpretation rather than God’s divine institution, it blurs the clear lines of biblical teaching on the Office of the Ministry and the nature of church fellowship. The following critique identifies three major theological problems with this document—its,
1. Confusion of doctrine and opinion
2. Redefinition of unity, and
3. Misuse of conscience—and considers the biblical implications of each for the life and faith of the Church.
