Dance Piece No.3 by Alice Shields is on New World Records CD # 80521, the Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center 1961 - 1973 album. Shields created it for its 1968 premiere by the Mimi Garrard Dance Theatre in New York City.
The musique concrete sound sources for the piece include a cheesy fairground calliope, a glockenspiel playing Mozart's "Ein Vogelwänger bin ich ya" from The Magic Flute, and sounds from Vladimir Ussachevsky's taped brass sound library. Shields produced the album, which also includes music of Charles Dodge, Bülent Arel, Ilhan Mimaroglu, Ingram Marshall and Daria Semegen.
She also wrote the liner notes, in which she describes in some detail what equipment and techniques were used by her and other composers at the Columbia-Princeton Center in the 1960s and early 1970s.
