How To Replace Rod Bearings & WHY!

Описание: Rod bearings! This is one of the WORST components to have fail on any engine. It usually results in catastrophic failure.

In todays video, we will be replacing all 6 sets of bearings on my twin turbo 6 cylinder BMW N54. This engine will be replacing the failed engine in my 2008 E90 335i.

Now although the bearings arent technically bad, I want to do a full refresh on this used engine before installing it, especially while I have it out on the stand.

The BMW engines YOU NEED to keep an eye out on for rod bearing wear and failure is the BMW N20, N55, N63, S54, S65, and S85.

The repairs are relatively the same on each engine, the hard part is getting access to the bearings themselves. If the engine is in the car, this requires dropping the subframe, removal of the oil pan, as well as the removal of the oil tray, oil pump, and oil pickup.

If you want to check the condition of your bearings, cut your filter open during an oil service and inspect it for bearing material like I show in the video.
