Understanding GBV at Home: WALPE’s National Inquiry into Root Causes and Solutions

Описание: Gender-based violence (GBV), remains one of the top three barriers preventing women from contesting and occupying leadership and decision-making in Zimbabwe. The Women’s Academy for Leadership and Political Excellence (WALPE) conducted interviews to explore the various forms of gender based violence, its root causes, its impact on women and girls in domestic settings across Zimbabwe and key changes needed to end GBV. Both visible and hidden forms of violence continue to intimidate and discourage them from contesting for public office at both local and national level. Economic vulnerability was linked to women remaining in abusive relationships, with a lack of access to resources, employment and financial independence increasing their risk.
