Rama Rao (KTR) recently praised the Andhra Pradesh government's focus on agriculture and irrigation projects during his visit to the Lower Manair and Mid Manair reservoirs. Referring to the severe El Niño conditions, KTR stated that the Andhra Pradesh government has shown foresight by implementing long-term water management strategies to prevent future water shortages. He specifically appreciated the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme for diverting surplus Godavari water to the Krishna River instead of allowing it to flow into the sea. The foundation for these achievements was laid through the decisions taken by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Anticipating the impact of El Niño and reduced rainfall, the government prioritized river-linking and water conservation measures. The Pattiseema project ensured a reliable water supply to the Krishna Delta, safeguarding lakhs of acres of farmland and demonstrating the effectiveness of interlinking rivers for sustainable irrigation. It is estimated that one TMC of water can irrigate nearly 10,000 acres of agricultural land. By diverting around 450 TMC of Godavari water to the Krishna basin over the years, the project has significantly strengthened irrigation security across the region. The initiative has become a model for water resource management and is widely regarded as one of India's most successful river-linking projects. The Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme was completed in just 363 days, setting a national record and earning recognition in the Limca Book of Records. During periods of low water availability from Karnataka reservoirs to Nagarjuna Sagar, the project ensured uninterrupted water supply to the Krishna Delta. It also helped conserve water in the Srisailam Reservoir, making additional water available for the drought-prone Rayalaseema region.
