Описание: This video is about how important bees were to people in the Middle Ages. Bees provided essential sweeteners like honey, and beeswax for candles, which were highly valued, especially by the Church. Keeping bees was a serious job, and while hives were simple baskets called skeps, harvesting honey was destructive to the bee colony. Because of their importance, bees were legally protected. The type of roof people had – thatch, wood shingles, or stone/tile – determined if keeping bees on the roof was even possible, with only the wealthy able to consider it due to stronger buildings and accessible spaces. Ultimately, rooftop beekeeping was difficult and dangerous, making ground-level placement much more practical for most people.
