If he does more than two Thundaja rotations hitting all 3 members, or attacks Rikku too many times, I recommend resetting and trying again. Use Trio as much as you can. Remember that it's useless to use a full Aeon in the first phase, as Dark Ixion will spam Thundaja until his overdrive bar is full and he uses Aerospark. (which guarantees only two hits to finish the battle). I had bad luck in this video, but I was still lucky enough to end all the Phoenix Downs at the exact moment of the finish.
