Mindfulness is defined as the act of paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, with a non-judgmental attitude.
Formal and Informal Mindfulness:
Formal mindfulness is commonly referred to as meditation.
Informal mindfulness is commonly seen as any action conducted in daily life with full awareness.
Mindfulness Throughout the Day:
Common examples of daily activities that resemble mindfulness are brushing teach; walking to class; cleaning the bedroom, etc.
Mindfulness Exercises:
Mindfulness exercises include focusing on breathing, exercise, listening and eating.
Why Mindfulness?
In the modern education system, healthy stress is frequently displaced by toxic stress. Toxic stress occurs when life’s demands consistently outpace our ability to cope with those demands. Toxic stress impairs attention, emotion and mood regulation, sleep, and learning readiness. Students need tools or strategies that target the nervous system and will transform habitual responses.
