This has taken me months to get to the point where I feel like it's worthy of sharing and I really hope you enjoy it as much as I've longer to bring this project to life.

Seduction of The Innocent is long. It's dry. It is witless, and meandering. It's hard to read. But it is an important artifact when trying to understand the history of the Comics Code, and the medium of comics and cartoonists in general. I hope this audio book will allow people who wouldn't be able, or just plain wouldn't, sit and read this book to finally explore it; to make this madness public knowledge. We still see far too many of these arguments today in 2019, some 60 years after Seduction of The Innocent's original publication. And while Werthem perverts and twists his words I will turn the tables and myself quote the philosopher George Santayana and end this by simply saying, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it".

The creation of the Comics Code Authority (that weird stamp you used to see on comics until Image came barreling onto the scene in the 90s) has long been shrouded in a veil of mysticism and mystery that is unneeded. The fervent anti-comics crusade is, and has been, easily tracked from its earliest published outcries, to the culmination of years of efforts to censor - and shut down - the then burgeoning comics market and publishers in the pages of Seduction of The Innocent. Fredric Werthem is a tragically misunderstood man. Most often referred to, and reviled as, the boogey man of comic books. And if this were to be true, than The Kefauver Juvenile Delinquency Hearings would undoubtedly be the night He Came Home. This however, as is often the case, isn't the whole story - it isn't even part of it. Debunking the boogey man myth will have to wait for another day. But, for now, we can examine the reasons that Werthem has become so nefarious among the comic book community, and across so many generations.
The generalizations, and what I, many other colleagues of Werthem's and historians I might add, believe to be falsified data - that provide the lopsided, while not entirely unfounded arguments presented through out Seduction of The Innocent. There are truths to be found in what Werthem says at points, but for the most part is just an undeserved and overzealous attack on the entire medium with insanely broad strokes that belie the intelligence Werthem was at times quite capable of.

I sincerely hope you all enjoy - this has taken me months to complete in a way I think is listenable. My recording rig is lacking to say the least - despite that, I think this sounds quite listenable and subsequent chapters will only improve. Kick back and relax, or maybe pick up a comic, and let the madness begin boils and ghouls!
