The goddess has the face of Lion and the body of a human, hence she is called Narasimhi, Nara' means human and 'Simhi' means lioness. Pratyangira is also called Atharvana Bhadrakali, as she is the Goddess of Atharva Veda (Vedic script that has collections of magical spells to conjure and cure, and prayers and hymns).
