He could have easily gained the control over the kingdom as he was the most favoured by the all ministers and even by the citizens. Laxman even told him to support if he wants the kingdom by force. But he refused.. So what was the real reason?


1. At the time of Marriage between Kaikeyi and Dasharatha, her father put a condition the only kaikeyi's son will the next King and Dasharatha accepted this condition and then he merried to kaikeyi
2. For Rama, Dharma was the first most thing in his life. As being prince the first Dharma is the well being of his citizens. And for Citizens the King is the most idel figure. IF the King's word can not be trusted or he can not full fill his own Vachan how can citizens trust someone else. So held the king's world true he went to forest.
3. When Lakshamana suggested to take the Kingdome forcefully, Rama said it not right to do so. And aginst the Dharma, he doesn't want to go against the King who has no fault at all.
So we can see here that, Rama's act to go Vanvaas to was to just uphold the Dharma. He has no selfish motive and Dasharatha never told him to go.
