The Ethan Allen Homestead Museum's Free Monthly Lecture Series presents: "Vermont and the Battle of Cedar Creek" by Mike Soules, former interpreter at Cedar Creek Battlefield National Park. This event is free to the public.
ABOUT THIS MONTH'S LECTURE:
The 8th Vermont Infantry Regiment played a significant role in the Battle of Cedar Creek, which took place on October 19, 1864 in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley during the US Civil War. This presentation describes the events that led to battle, the morning surprise attack, the "Halt", Sheridan's Ride, and the consequences of the battle. Find out why there is today a Cedar Creek Room at the Vermont State House.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Mike Soules is a retired Vermont teacher who moved to Virginia in 2015. Soules was a member of the North Carolina Civil War Round Table, which met monthly to hear from various Civil War experts. This lead to his own self-education about the Civil War. Later Soules moved to Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, where got to visit many nearby Civil War battlefield sites, and attend the National Civil War Convention. In Virginia, Soules began volunteering as a docent and interpreter at Belle Grove and Cedar Creek Battlefield National Park, where he was fascinated by Vermont's connection to this major national battle.

The Homestead Monthly Lecture Program is free for all the attend! It covers various topics pertaining to Vermont history, early American history, and the Homestead site. Each lecture is followed by Q&A with the presenter.
