We are celebrating National Tree Week by exploring her expressive approach to painting trees and the landscapes she loved.

🌳🌲 Inspired by the wild landscapes and towering trees of British Columbia, Emily Carr painted forests as living, spiritual places. In this session, you will explore elements of landscape painting and nature art by trying a few short exercises in her expressive style, using movement, rhythm and colour to bring your sketches to life. You will learn simple approaches for how to paint trees and create your own nature painting studies, making this a welcoming session for beginners and anyone looking to develop new painting techniques.

• Finish with a focused activity to develop your skills and spark fresh ideas
Perfect for all levels: this beginner-friendly session is great whether you're picking up a pencil for the first time or looking to expand your artistic practice.

For this session you’ll need👇🏼
• Sketching pencil – 2B, 4B or 6B
• Paper or card – you will need thick paper like watercolour paper, cardboard (even from the recycling bin) or lining wallpaper
• Acrylic paints, poster paints or coloured chalk pastels
• Medium and large paint brush (if using paint)

✨ The idea isn’t to buy lots of new equipment but to use what you have!
