The R110B (contract order R131) was a prototype new technology New York City Subway car model built by Bombardier in 1992. There were nine cars arranged as 3-car sets. They were designed to test features that would be implemented on future mass-production New Tech Train orders.
First announced in 1989, the R110Bs entered service on June 15, 1993, on the A line. They continued to run as a 9 car train until 1996, when three cars (3007-3009) were removed from service to provide spare parts for the remaining 6 cars. The R110Bs continued in service as a 6 car train on the C line until February 2001, when they were removed from service after serving their purpose to test and qualify new equipment.
Cars 3001-3006 were equipped with green seats, while triplet 3007-3009 had white seats. Car 3007, having been removed from service in 1996, is, therefore, arguably one of the rarest and most unique NYC Subway cars in existence!
R110B Car #3007 is now on display at the NY Transit Museum for the public to enjoy! To plan your visit, go to www.NYTransitMuseum.org.
