Ra is a measure of the average roughness of a metal surface, and lower numbers indicate a smoother surface.

However, this finish is not suitable for every situation. While it may look great, a mirror finish is not recommended for a refrigerator. Instead, a refrigerator made of stainless steel should be polished. It also has the advantages of being scratch-free, durable, and extremely reflective.
