The Carioca exercise is a dynamic lateral crossover step drill that improves agility, overall conditioning, and foot speed.

To get started:
1. Standing with your knees slightly bent, with the weight on the balls of your feet, laterally move to your side by crossing your trailing foot in front of your lead foot, while allowing your hips to open towards the direction you’re moving.
2. Now that your legs are crossed, immediately bring your back leg forward to uncross your legs.
3. Next, cross your back leg behind your front leg, as your hips open the opposite way.
4. Continue alternating this lateral crossover step combination for 5-10 yards, as you pump your arms, similar to if you were running.
5. Once you reach the end, carioca back to the starting line.
6. Repeat for time or reps.
