Tubing: Cline River Canyon - David Thompson Country, AB

Kayakers paddle this canyon when the flows are higher. But when the flows come down a bit, it becomes a perfect canyon to tube. The Cline River Canyon is prettier when the flows are a bit lower as well.

Note: A measured flow rate for the Cline River was not available due to the high level of Abraham Lake.


There are two long stretches of beautiful canyon narrows below the Coral Creek confluence.

0:00 Start at the Bench
The easiest spot to drop down to the river is at (52.162124, -116.500395). Someone has even built a couple nice rock benches here.

I believe it's also possible to access the river a little farther upstream at (52.161320, -116.505972). But I haven't attempted it yet.

Unfortunately I forgot to turn my camera back on and missed videoing a couple nice sets of rapids just before the second stretch of narrows. So expect a bit more than what this video shows.

10:35 Rest of the Route
After the narrows, the lower section all the way down to Abraham Lake is a bit more mellow, but still lots of fun. Abraham Lake is dammed and the water level happened to be very high. So this time the route ended just before the bridge.

Note: When the flows are too high to go through the narrows and the lake level is much lower, just this lower section becomes another exceptional tubing adventure.
