STORYLINE
Iran's defence minister on Thursday vowed that his country will continue production of "different missiles and research" and that Iran will "use nuclear defence as a potential" if "threatened by any power".
Mostafa Mohammad Najjar spoke at a news conference after meeting his Syrian counterpart Hassan Ali Turkmani in Tehran on Thursday.
Turkmani told reporters that Syria and Iran's "policy is the policy of strengthening resistance and tackling the threats of United States and Israel".
He added that he wouldn't give details of joint defence plans against Israel although the plans were "not secret".
Answering a question regarding a new developed Shahab4 missile, Najjar said that research activities are underway.
The last modern developed Iranian missile was Shahab3 and now Iran is saying that it's following production of Shahab4 missile.
Asked later about Iran's nuclear programme, Najjar said: "We should be ready for confronting all kinds of threats. If we feel that we're being threatened by any power, we'll use nuclear defence as a potential."
Later on Thursday, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowed to resist Western pressure over his country's disputed nuclear programme, as the US warned continued defiance could result in tough measures by the UN Security Council.
The United States and Europe urged Iran on Thursday to lift a veil of secrecy over its nuclear activities and freeze uranium enrichment, with Washington warning that continued defiance could result in tough measures by the UN Security Council.
Tehran has denied accusations by the US and its allies that Iran is seeking enrichment to develop nuclear weapons, saying its programme would only generate energy.
