Wimbledon announced plans to build a roof on Number One Court and 2013 prize money increases of 40 percent on Tuesday.
Phillip Brook, Chairman of the All England Club (on a roof over Number One Court):
"I just wanted, before we leave just agenda item, a couple of words about Number One Court, as follows. Firstly in terms of time scales, this is a complicated project just as Centre Court was. It does involve the building of a new fixed and a new retractable roof, it also involves significant re-modelling of the stadium itself."
Phillip Brook, Chairman of the All England Club (on prize money increases):
"In terms of total prize money our overall percentage prize money increase this year is 40%. 40% is 6.5 million pounds ($9.9 million) increase on last year. At 6.5 million pounds this is the largest increase ever in tennis history and the total prize of 22.6 million pounds ($34.4 million) is also the largest prize money ever in tennis."
Phillip Brook, Chairman of the All England Club (on prize money increases in the current economic climate):
"I think we, the economic climate - I would accept that, I think we have to accept that the world that we live in is a world where we are competing with other international tennis events. We also keep an eye on what happens in other sports and we do think this was a moment in time in terms of how we could respond to a subject that has been talked about a lot over the last eighteen months. We've chosen to make these increases this year because we think it's the right thing to do. It's an important moment in time and we wanted to demonstrate to all the players how much they are appreciated by Wimbledon."
