Survivors of Kenya School Massacre Reunite with Relatives

Описание: Some survivors of a deadly Kenyan campus attack by extremist group Al-Shabaab that left 148 people dead arrived on Saturday in the country's capital Nairobi, where they were reunited with family and friends.

Around 400 people who survived the campus attack in Garissa were taken to Nairobi via eight buses late on Saturday to meet relatives who were expecting them at a local stadium. The Kenyan government arranged rides for those who still had not gotten in contact with their family members.

The survivors recalled the chaotic moment when Al-Shabaab gunmen came to attack.

“When the Al-Shabaab came, I was in the hostels. Now some of us ran away, some of us climbed to the roof, some of us locked themselves indoors. So, like me, I was on the roof and we waited for the Kenya Defense Forces up to 8:00. Now they came at 8:00 and they rescued some of us, but some of us unfortunately, they were killed by the Al-Shabaab,” said a student.

Government personnel at the stadium asked the survivors for various information so as to help them get in contact with their relatives.

One father at the stadium said he had not seen his daughter yet, but that he had confirmed she was there. Others were not as lucky.

"I did not find him. I came here and I did not find him. He is the only brother I have," said a relative.

The Kenyan government said it would send pyschiatric experts to survivors’ homes to help them recover from the traumatic experience of the attack.
