SC has taken suo moto cognizance regarding the issue concerning the definition of Aravalli hills. A CJI-led bench will hear the matter on December 29. Last month, SC accepted a uniform definition of Aravalli hills and ranges and banned the grant of fresh mining leases inside its areas. Areas of Aravalli spanning Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat have been barred from mining until experts' reports are out.
