1937 McCormick Deering Diesel WD 40 - Startup on Gas, Switch to Diesel

This tractor is badged as McCormick-Deering, rather than Farmall. In 1937, McCormick-Deering had a long established reputation and name recognition for their high quality single cylinder stationary engines.

McCormick-Deering took a different approach to starting a diesel than the pony engine used by some other manufacturers. Their diesel engines started on gas, and switched to diesel once they had warmed up a bit. Before shutting down, you switched back to gas to get the diesel fuel out of the system, to be ready for the next start, The switchover to diesel happens at 1:30.

Farmers of the day were used to this method of starting, as many early tractors and stationary engines started on gas, and switched to kerosene after warming up.

According to TractorData.com, it's a 28-44 claimed, but Nebraska tested at 37-48.8. Quite a beast.
