"So Lonely" released by The Police on the 24th of November 1978, on their debut studio album Outlandos D'Amour. The single reached #6 on the UK charts. The song features a fusion of punk and reggae styles, becoming a pioneering new sound in rock, but also their own signature sound. Sting describes it as "going back and forth between thrash punk and reggae. That was the little niche we created for ourselves."
Stewart Copeland's drum part within the track is invigorating with fast fills around the toms, tasty hi-hat/ride cymbal work and overall, an absolute powerhouse behind the drums. Copeland's drumming blends elements of reggae, jazz, punk and rock.
