In this video we are monitoring an IP and check its status every a specific interval of time. We output the data on Elasticsearch.
You can download heartbeat RPM from https://www.elastic.co/downloads/beat...
If your server has internet connectivity then
curl -L -O https://artifacts.elastic.co/download...
sudo rpm -vi heartbeat-7.7.0-x86_64.rpm
Here are some simple steps to create a new monitor on heartbeat
1. Make sure that heartbeat is installed on your machine by typing (systemctl status heartbeat-elastic)
• If not then download the RPM from heartbeat official website https://www.elastic.co/downloads/beat...
2. Go to the directory of heartbeat (cd /etc/heartbeat)
3. You will be interested only in heartbeat.yml and monitors.d folder
• hearbeat.yml
• Comment any monitor that is active
• Modify the elasticsearch from localhost:9200 to your elasticsearch server and the username and password
• monitors.d
• It depends on the type of target that you want to monitor
• If you want to ping then make a copy of sample.icmp.yml.disabled (cp sample.icmp.yml.disabled test.icmp.yml)
• Documentation https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/beats...
• If you want to tcp then make a copy of sample. tcp.yml.disabled (cp sample. tcp.yml.disabled test.icmp.yml)
• Documentation https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/beats...
• If you want to do an HTTP request then make a copy of sample.http.yml.disabled (cp sample. http.yml.disabled test.icmp.yml)
• Documentation https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/beats...
4. If you configured the reload.enabled: true at the heartbeat.yml then you don’t need to restart the heartbeat-elastic service
• If the service was not started then systemctl start heartbeat-elastic
• If you want to restart the systemctl restart heartbeat-elastic
