Protests are continuing in areas in and around Pretoria.
They include Hammanskraal, Mamelodi, Soshanguve and parts of Pretoria West. The U.S. Diplomatic Mission to South Africa has warned U.S. citizens about what it calls spontaneous civil disruptions, including demonstrations and protests, that are occurring and may continue to occur before and during the election period in South Africa. In a statement, the U.S. has reminded its citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence - and has requested its citizens in South Africa to avoid large gatherings and demonstrations during the election period.
