The circumcision carving located in the Tomb of Ankhmahor at the Saqqara necropolis is one of the earliest known visual records of medical procedures in Ancient Egypt. Dating back to the Old Kingdom (c. 2400 BCE), this remarkable relief shows priests or physicians performing circumcision, highlighting the advanced understanding of ritual hygiene, medicine, and religious practices in ancient Egyptian society.
Known as the “Doctor’s Tomb,” Ankhmahor’s burial site lies near the Step Pyramid of Djoser and contains detailed scenes of surgery, healing, and daily life.
