I think it’s about time to learn how to use a password manager. I’ve got a 1Password tutorial for you - from what it is, how to set it up and how to use it.

🔑 1Password Features & Capabilities 🔑

🗂️ Multiple Vaults
One of my favorite things about 1Password. Rather than dumping all my sensitive information into one place, I’ve actually got it properly organized. Plus, if I have to share a bunch of things at once, putting them in a vault and then sharing it is waaaaay easier than just doing it one by one.

✈️ Travel Mode
I also checked out Travel Mode - it’s pretty cool. I can mark which vaults are travel-safe and if I hop over to the Netherlands for the weekend, I’ll only have access to those specific vaults. Not all information is travel-safe, so it’s nice to be able to keep it locked.

🔦 Watchtower
Watchtower security check is another thing I liked a lot. It’s like a nagging grandma, in the greatest of ways. It points out everything that may go wrong - weak passwords, compromised log-ins… basically, keeps you in check.

❌ 1Password X
Unlike regular 1Password browser extensions, which are still available to use by the way, it can only be used on Chrome, Firefox and Edge. It recognizes credit card or address fields and I can autofill the information - saves a loooot of time when shopping.

🔑 1Password Tutorial 🔑

▶️ Pick a plan. For lone wolf users, the Personal plan should suffice. If you need the vaults sharing option, I’d go for the 1Password family plan. You can add up to 5 users in there.

▶️ Enter your email address and receive a six-digit authentication code. Then, generate the master password and, of course, keep it safe.

▶️ Main view is the All Items folder. You can just add items from here, simply click the New Item button.

▶️ To import data, you need to open the browser version. Click on the username, choose import, then where your data is coming from and finally, all that’s left is to put a CVS file in there.

▶️ To keep all things nice and neat, here come the Vaults. To add one, click the plus button, and name the vault. You can assign an icon too, as well as add a description. Then, you can add items to the vault in the exact same way as to the main folder. Once I have a few vaults, it’s pretty easy to move stuff between them too.

▶️ If you want to modify the vault, let’s say, mark it as travel-safe, right-click on it in the sidebar, click “manage access” and from there, it directs you to the browser.
