New Zealand is extending alert level 4 restrictions in Auckland for at least another two weeks but lowering the alert level for other parts of the country.
The number of new coronavirus cases in New Zealand reported today fell significantly for the first time since the outbreak was detected nearly two weeks ago.
The health authorities reported 53 new community cases, down from 83 on Sunday. Some of that decrease may have been attributable to fewer tests being completed.
NZ PM Jacinda Ardern says all regions south of Auckland will have an easing of restrictions at 11:59pm (local time) tomorrow.
