Описание: More than half of the basket of beet root brought home was sliced and sun-dried, while the rest was blended with peranga nelli to make a beetroot–nelli immunity powder, enriched with ginger, cumin, coriander, and pepper.
The muscat pieces, tinted with pure beetroot juice, carried a strawberry-like flavor and were generously studded with crunchy peanuts that crackled with every bite.
The snowy whiteness of the handful of saman pichcha flowers plucked in the morning and set out to dry had faded by evening. Paired with a quickly brewed cup of fragrant pichcha tea, a piece of that muscat would tempt anyone.
Using a half-stone mortar, I finely ground dried beetroot slices to make a lip balm. This little balm works wonders; reviving the dullness of dry, chapped lips while helping to lock in moisture.
On one of our trips to Kandy, we stopped for lunch at a rustic, village-style eatery near the Temple of the Tooth. That day, the white rice served on a lotus leaf was accompanied by vegetable noodles, beetroot curry, garlic tempering, young jackfruit, gotukola sambol, and brinjal prepared with moju.
The meal was delightful, but that is not why I write this. A splash of red from the beetroot curry, lightly spilling and mingling beside the portion of noodles I shared, drew me into a moment of quiet reflection; planting in my mind the seed of an idea for a new noodle recipe.
I am all the more delighted to be able to carry its taste and fragrance to you in this way. For recipes like these, and for every new creative pursuit, I remain forever grateful to nature—ever generous in offering inspiration without being asked.
