We recorded the blood moon lunar eclipse on 3 March 2026. We used a GoPro Hero 8 with its Night Lapse feature, which exposes for 30 seconds and then repeats until stopped (or the battery runs out). It ran from about 1:30 AM until about 4:30 AM. While recording, Rick also took still images with a Canon camera and a 300 mm zoom lens, set on a tripod. Bob took still images with his Canon camera with a 400 mm zoom lens, set on a tripod. In this video, we show the original nightlapse and repeat it at half speed. We also provide examples of some of the better still images we captured. Here is the list of still images and their metadata:

During the darkest part of the eclipse, we were still able to see the moon's face by exposing the camera sensor for much longer. Some believers in the flat Earth notion try to claim that it's not the Earth's shadow that causes the eclipse, but some never-seen object floating in space that blocks the moon's light, but nothing else. The fact that we can still see the face of the moon in a long exposure proves that idea to be ridiculous. It's clearly Earth's shadow causing the eclipse and Earth's atmosphere causing the "blood moon" effect.
