On top of the Aussie onslaught, we’ve got one of the best new Deftones/Loathe-inspired metalcore acts of the year and a 90s/2000s grunge-and-alt-rock–soaked metalcore band that’s been living rent-free in my head ever since the first playthrough. And Thrash? Thrash is having a full-scale renaissance this week. Blistering tempos, whiplash riffing, the whole nine yards. In this episode, I’m breaking down the best new albums and EPs across all of it, from throwback deathcore violence to molten thrash fury and the rising wave of Australian heaviness that’s taking over my release list like a stampede of drop-tuned kangaroos.
