We planned a cleanup weekend for our remote cabin build — but the weather had other ideas.
In this episode, we transport two large steel barrels from the city out to the island with the goal of finally burning off months of collected wood, branches, and scrap from repeated tree cutting. It’s a crucial step in preparing the land for the next phase of the cabin build.
Not long after we arrive, a storm rolls in. Rain soaks the island, the wood, and the barrels, turning a straightforward plan into a slow, difficult challenge. Fires struggle, progress slows, and day one becomes all about adapting and pushing through.
By day two, conditions improve and the work starts to pay off. Wet trees still cause problems, but real progress is made. This episode shows the reality of off-grid work — plans change, nature decides the pace, and progress comes through persistence rather than perfection.
About the Project
We’re building a remote cabin slowly and simply, using limited tools and plenty of improvisation in the Swedish archipelago. A calm, real-time cabin build series showing the process step by step.
