Описание: In our sixth episode of “The Social Contrast”, Thaddeus T and I will be celebrating the Halloween season by discussing and analyzing the life and works of the great Edgar Allan Poe.
The works we will be discussing include "The Tell-Tale Heart”, “The Cask of Amontillado”, “The Black Cat”, “The Sphinx”, “The Oval Portrait”, “Masque of the Red Death”, “The Pit and the Pendulum”, “Premature Burial”, “Murders in the Rue Morgue", "The Murder of Marie Roget", "The Fall of the House of Usher", "Hop Frog", "Imp of the Perverse", The Bells", and of course, "The Raven".

Stemming from our discussion about Poe's life and works in our 90 minute analysis are topics that include:

1. the argument of how Poe was, arguably, a stepping stone to psychoanalysis in literature.
2. the connection between trauma, addiction, and grief.
3. anxiety versus delusional disorders.
4. the difference between Romanticism and Gothicism.
5. similarities between Poe and Dostoevsky (and other writers), as well as parallelling 19th century philosophies.
6. Poe's style of writing.
7. Poe's relationships and marriage.
8. the early detective works.
9. the perspective of the embittered intellectual.
10. the circumstances surrounding Poe's death.
