There is nothing more satisfying than eating fresh, homemade pasta.
Better yet, there’s nothing more satisfying than getting to tell your family and friends gathered at the table to enjoy the homemade pasta that you made it.
But before getting to this point, you may be wondering how difficult and time consuming it is to make homemade pasta dough and homemade pasta sauce. We’re here to tell you that it’s not as difficult as you think it is. In fact, we have an easy homemade pasta recipe for you right here that will leave your family and friends begging for more.
Step 1: Put flour on the surface you’ll be working on and form a bowl/hole in the middle of the flour.
Step 2: Add 4 eggs to the hole, salt, and begin whisking the ingredients slowly into the flour with a fork. The key is to not rush this process. Keep whisking slowly until you’ve absorbed as much flour as you can.
Step 3: Knead the rest of the flour into the dough. Kneading is a very important part of this process and may take around 12-15 minutes. Sprinkle more flour onto the surface or your dough if needed. Taking this time to knead the dough slowly is what will make for successful, delicious, perfect homemade pasta.
Step 4: When you’ve finished kneading the dough, wrap it in clear wrap and place it in the fridge for 30 minutes.
Step 5: After the 30 minutes, sprinkle more flour onto the surface and roll the dough to ⅛ inch thickness with your roll pin. When you roll it out, it will look like pizza dough. This is when you’ll start lightly folding to create that ⅛ inch roll and, from there, begin cutting it into strips.
Step 6: Sprinkle more flour onto the strips, toss, and separate the pasta. Set the separated pasta aside.
Step 7: Heat a pan over medium heat with olive oil, add chopped onions, a jar of strained tomatoes, salt and oregano. Stir and cook for about 30 minutes.
Step 8: Bring a pot of water to a boil and add salt and olive oil. Now it’s time to cook your homemade pasta! Put all of the separated pasta into the pot of boiling water and cook until the pasta is al dente. This should take approximately 3 minutes, but keep checking the noodles every minute with a fork.
Step 9: Mix noodles with the sauce and serve with fresh parmesan and basil.
Step 10: Lastly, and most importantly, enjoy!
Depending on the type of noodles you’re making, they may not take long to cook. A good rule of thumb to follow is: if it’s floating, it’s likely done. Some people also like to leave their noodles to dry on a noodle drying rack for about 15 minutes before cooking, but if you don’t have one of these gadgets, don’t worry. You can easily place the noodles on the back of a chair after putting a tea towel down after lightly dusting it with flour, a laundry drying rack, or even coat hangers!
Why bother drying your pasta in the first place? This important step can help it become more firm instead of sticky before adding it to your pot of boiling water and having it come out a large, sticky, clump.
