LIVE: Polish farmers stage protest on border with Germany over Ukrainian grain

Описание: Farmers protest near the Polish-German border on Sunday, March 17, during the ongoing row over cheap imports from countries like Ukraine, high production costs and EU regulations regarding the Green Deal.

Agricultural leaders met with Polish PM Donald Tusk a week ago, although talks ended in deadlock. Tusk also held discussions with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday.

The EU lifted tariffs and quotas on Ukrainian grain following the outbreak of conflict with Russia. While border countries were given certain protections, farmers claim the huge supplies of duty-free grain entering Europe have destroyed their sector.

Tusk has called for a return to the trade rules before the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has demanded a 'solution', alleging that it had 'gone beyond both economics and morality long ago'.
