Malaysia isn’t usually associated with elephants, but deep in the jungle state of Pahang, just north of Kuala Lumpur, there’s a genuine elephant conservation centre that almost no one talks about. In this vlog, I visit what many consider Malaysia’s best elephant sanctuary to see what ethical elephant tourism actually looks like.

Unlike many elephant attractions in nearby countries, this sanctuary focuses on conservation, rehabilitation, and education — not riding, performances, or exploitation. Visitors can observe the elephants, feed them, learn their stories, and support conservation efforts through optional donations. The elephants have space, water, and natural surroundings, and the experience feels calm, respectful, and authentic.

In this video, I take you through the sanctuary, show you the adult and baby elephants, share practical tips for visiting, and explain why places like this are becoming more important as human development continues to reduce wildlife habitats across Southeast Asia. You’ll also get a sense of the atmosphere, the people visiting, and why this experience feels very different from typical elephant tourism.
