Last weekend I ran one of Flagstaff’s most iconic high-elevation loops—Humphreys Peak Trail to Weatherford Trail and back via Kachina Trail. The highlight? Weatherford Trail has finally reopened after being closed since the devastating 2022 Pipeline Fire.
Starting early to beat the summer heat, I ascended to the saddle, soaked in panoramic views from there, and descended the freshly reopened Weatherford switchbacks before cruising through the cool forested beauty of Kachina Trail.
This route combines alpine challenge, forest serenity, and the excitement of revisiting trails that were off-limits for over two years. If you’re looking for a long, scenic trail loop in the San Francisco Peaks area, this is a must-do!

Total Elevation Gain: ~4,062 ft
