Never Monday is Steven Mathias on guitar and vocals, Katie Mathias on guitar and vocals, Gary Melhaff on saxophone, Joey Probulis on bass guitar, and Paul Evans on drums. The band was formed in 2016 with a goal to play quality modern blues music. Steven writes and arranges all of the original music, drawing on years of performing experience, music education, and passionate guitar playing. In 2020 Never Monday released their first EP, Made for Sinners, which is available on all streaming platforms. Oh Hell, the first song on the album, has seen international radio play. Never Monday aims to bring their audience covers of music they love ranging from blues to classic rock to punk. Their favorite bands to cover include Alice Cooper, Green Day, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and The Rolling Stones.
Steven is Never Monday’s fearless leader. He plays wicked lead guitar, serenades with his rich and rugged baritone voice, and writes and arranges all the original music for Never Monday. He started playing guitar at 14 and never looked back, making it his life’s passion. When he’s not playing face-melting solos he enjoys a good horror flick and a pint of the proof that God loves us (aka beer).Katie lays down a mean rhythm guitar for Never Monday, as well as adding her sparkling mezzo-soprano voice to mix. She started playing guitar at 15 (after getting tired of being bested at the piano by her younger sister), and after studying classical guitar in college, she dove into the world of rock-and-roll. When she’s not obsessively practicing, she enjoys stitching embroidery and a favorite episode of Star Trek.Joey is the thump-master of Never Monday. He’s also the newest addition to the band, joining in 2021. A masterful guitarist as well, having started on the instrument when he was 16, Joey played and toured with the band Vespera before joining Never Monday. He brings an energy and expertise that simply can’t be beat (pun intended). When he’s not grooving some epic bass lines, Joey enjoys hiking, working out, and cooking up some delicious pizza.Paul is the rhythmic heart and soul of Never Monday. He started his musical journey in school with the trumpet and viola. When his first band, The Late Bloomers, needed a drummer, he answered the call! In addition to holding together the universe with metronome precision, he enjoys hiking, dungeons and dragons, and listening to new wave.Gary brings the cool to Never Monday with a wicked sounding Saxophone. He “played” a bit of sax as a kid in band, but really dug into the instrument as a young adult. He says he won’t be satisfied until he sounds like Lenny Pickett. He has studied with some of the best saxophone players of our time, including Bert Wilson and Eric Marienthal. When he’s not exploring the outer limits of altissimo on the sax, Gary enjoys a good workout and photography.
