Turkey to 'respond in the strongest way possible' over alleged Kurdish attack in border region

Описание: Turkey said a Kurdish militia killed three people, including a child in a mortar attack launched from northern Syria on Monday (November 21), in an escalation of cross-border attacks following Turkish air and land operations over the weekend.

One of the rockets landed on the grounds of a school but there were no fatalities there. A soldier and seven police officers were wounded overnight in a separate attack by suspected Kurdish militants.

Turkish warplanes struck Kurdish militant bases in Syria and Iraq on November 20, destroying 89 targets in retaliation for a bomb attack in Istanbul that killed six people a week ago, which Turkey blames on the Kurdish groups.

Turkish media reported a resumption of Turkish air strikes on Monday, and said Turkish artillery also retaliated to the rocket attacks by firing at targets in Syria. Turkey’s defence ministry later confirmed these retaliatory strikes by Turkish artillery units.

UN chief Antonio Guterres urged calm and de-escalation on Monday, in a statement made by his spokesperson.
