A lot of us have stretch marks and a lot of us go through this because of the natural change of the body. A lot of people ask what is the difference between the red/dark and the white looking stretch marks. when the stretch marks are developing because of the sudden weight gain changes or a person joining the gym or a sudden weight gain in the lockdown or even pregnancy, the skin stretches and there is a full thickness tearing of the skin and what you are seeing as the darkness or the redness and the skin colour is the blood vessels that is stretched during the actual development. Over a period of many months these dark stretch marks fade and they become white stretch marks, which we call as Striae Alba and the red stretch marks are called a s Striae Rubra. In those who have very dark skin types we see very dark skin pigmentation and they dot become light at all and these are the Dark stretch marks. The difference primarily is when the stretch marks is more red in color, it is more amenable to treatment, meaning it can be treated and the appearance can be made better with lasers, dermarollers, platelet rich plasma. When it turns to be white it becomes less apparent and it is more difficult to treat. So if you have developed red stretch marks and if you want to have treatment, it is better to seek treatment early for these stretch marks.
