After reaching Manaus, I decided to take two more boat rides all the way to Macapá, Brazil, due to the road conditions in Guyana from Lethem to Linden.
From Macapá, it’s 600 km to the border city of Oiapoque, Brazil, but there is nearly 100 km of unpaved road. On the day we were riding, there was road work, and they had completely dug up more than 1 km, making it impossible to ride through.
It took more than an hour to cross that section, and I dropped the bike. Willy helped a lot.
Once we reached French Guiana, I found out I had to get motorcycle insurance for 95 euros, just for 15 days, which was very expensive. Unfortunately, there was no internet that day, and I had to pay in cash, but I didn’t have euros. So, I ended up going back to Brazil, and from Oiapoque, we exchanged for euros and completed the immigration process.
We started riding toward Cayenne after dark and ended up riding 200 km in the night. There were no cities or settlements in between. We finally reached Angie and Willy’s house at 11 PM.
