Christmas Eve is a holy interruption: God’s light breaks into real-world darkness. In this homily, Rev. Christy Ann Clark proclaims the good news of great joy through Luke’s nativity story—Mary (“Bitter Tears” in the First Nations Version), the innkeeper/homeowner who still made room, and the shepherds entrusted to witness and tell what they’ve seen.
With the refrain “Don’t Let the Light in Me Die,” this message speaks to seasons of grief, depression, painful diagnoses, homelessness, and the weight of the world—declaring that Jesus shines in the dark and Emmanuel is God-with-us. Weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning.
As we leave this service, we are called to be a Christmas people: ponder these things in our hearts, actively seek the light, and share honest stories of hope.
