Love and Hope Shine Through Gaza’s First Valentine’s Day Since the Conflict

Описание: MetroTV, With a tentative nod to normal life, Gazans marked Valentine's Day for the first time since the start of the two-year conflict - a small celebration set against widespread loss, but also a desire to hold on to hope.

Footage filmed on Saturday shows shops laying out teddy bears and Valentine-themed gifts alongside red hearts and roses, as customers browsed for presents for their loved ones.



"Our homes were devastated. We lost so many loved ones, and the life we knew before October 7 is gone. But people still hold on to love and to life - so we're doing everything we can to help them rebuild what's been taken, and to bring back even a little happiness," a vendor shared.



Reflecting a determination to cling to normal life after two years of war, a resident of Gaza added that "love is still deeply rooted in us and it won’t end."

"Gaza has been through so much, but people are still reaching for love, hope and life," he continued.



Valentine's Day, also known as Saint Valentine's Day, is marked each year on February 14 worldwide, when couples exchange messages, gifts and small gestures of love.



Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff announced in January the launch of the second phase of the Trump plan, consisting of 20 points to end the conflict in Gaza. The plan includes moving from a ceasefire to disarmament, forming a technocratic administration, starting reconstruction, and reopening the Rafah crossing.

Hamas and Israel reached a ceasefire agreement that took effect on Friday, October 10, under the framework of the 20-point 'Trump Plan,' whose main provisions include an immediate halt to fighting, the release of all hostages - alive or deceased - and the delivery of humanitarian aid.
