visiting boston in the winter | video journal and cinematics

had a 3 day weekend and thought i'd make the most of it by getting out of north carolina (it's nice but I've always lived here so there aren't too many surprises). my friend from my summer internship last year is doing a spring internship in Boston so thought i'd visit. $98 for a round trip flight and a couch to sleep on for free, say less, I'm booking it. i think studying abroad last year has definitely changed me... I'm constantly itching to travel, which might be excessive at this point. regardless, I enjoy side quests and taking these short trips. but this is the 2nd trip I've taken to Boston in 6 months... i should find another destination.
about a week before this trip, definitely had a reality check with the tragic news of the helicopter and airliner mid-air collision. those impacted are in my prayers. truly never know what can happen, so I am always grateful for safe travels and being able to document my experiences so I can relive and look back on them. in general, just grateful for every passing day because you never know when your life could be completely changed in just a few seconds.
being back in Boston felt surreal. everything felt so familiar. I'm basically a boston expert at this point since I've built a solid mental map of the city. however there were some differences. in the past, I always visited in the summer, but this time, I visited in the winter, and there was lots of snow! rivers and ponds even froze over. as someone who doesn't see snow too much but always had positive experiences with it, it was all amazing. (NC did get a solid amount of snow twice already this year though)
got to see my friend for the first time since august 2024! met his housemates and friends (and "coworkers") for the first time and then we went exploring the city. since I had seen most of the city, it was slow paced, but just revisiting all the different tourist sites in the snow was nice. got to "skate" on a frozen pond in the Boston public garden. great views and great environment.
2nd day was similar, but the night before there was a snowstorm that brought maybe 4in of snow! again just walked around the city and explored some college campuses. it's always fun to take a look at the lecture halls of other colleges, especially as a college student since nobody would really question you if you look like you belong. in the evening, watched the super bowl and the chiefs lost!
final day was a Monday so got to visit the office my friend works at. left for the city after lunch and almost missed the train... thankfully didn't and just did some more walking around. had a 7pm flight and almost missed it because the transportation was having some issues, but in the end all good!
overall, had a great trip. very calm and relaxing. mostly just walking around with no rush or stress. most importantly, got to visit a friend! everyone was smart, talented, and kind. big shoutout to everyone for letting me stay and being chill about it! really cool group of people.
i probably left a lot of details out, but this was a great experience! since I have friends and family around the US (college, high school, family, etc.) and even around the world (European exchange, family, etc.), maybe this won't be the last time i'm hosted and get to visit another place jk lol. but if I move somewhere else, I hope I can host visiting friends and family too!
