BPO Concertmaster Michael Ludwig is featured as soloist in Wieniawski's Violin Concerto No. 2, one of the greatest violin concertos of the Romantic era, memorable for its lush and moving melodies and harmonies. JoAnn Falletta conducts the program, which also includes Wieniawski's countryman, Mieczysław Karłowicz's Symphonic Poem "A Sad Tale" and Brahms' Third Symphony. Built around the tonal theme of F-A flat-F, the symphony celebrates "Free But Happy" (Frei aber froh) and is one of the composer's most popular.
